BLM is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the team to serve as a Forestry Technician (Fire)/Assistant Fire Management Technician.
This position is located at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) in Boise, Idaho. Information about the Boise area can be found at
**Physical Demands**:
The work is normally sedentary but may require physical exertion.
**Work Environment**:
Office conditions require long periods of sitting, working with computers and general lifting.
Travel and relocation expenses **will not be paid** by the Department of the Interior. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.

### Responsibilities
* Assist with national level planning and policy development for fire and aviation management programs.
* Assist with development, facilitation and execution of policies, which meet the objectives of the National Office Fire and Aviation management programs.
* Develop content for web sites, social media, etc., and facilitate dissemination of communication materials.
* Provide oversight and leadership to the BLM Fire Leadership Team s Inclusion and Diversity for Excellence Advisory Group.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
### Qualifications
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement- please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
**To qualify for the GS-08 grade level**, 1 year of creditable specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 is required. Specialized experience is defined as, but not limited to: assisting with developing office or organizational policies and guidelines for initiatives and efforts; using automated software (e.g. Micrsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and technical expertise to develop reports, briefings and/or dissemenation of information.
* OR-
Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR two full years (36 semester hours) of graduate education leading to a such a degree DIRECTLY related to work of the position OR an equivalent combination of
specialized experience and education. **
To qualify for the GS-09 grade level**, 1 year of creditable specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 is required. Specialized experience is defines as, but not limited to: leading the development of office or organizational policies and guidelines for national/bureau initiatives and efforts; using automated software (e.g. Micrsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and technical expertise to develop reports, lead briefings and/or dissemenation of information.
* OR-
Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR two full years (36 semester hours) of graduate education leading to a such a degree DIRECTLY related to work of the position OR an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education.
If the position is filled at a lower grade level, subsequent promotion to the next grade level will be processed without further competition dependent upon administrative approval and the continuing need for an actual assignment and performance of higher-level duties.

This is a not-to-exceed 1 year detail/temporary promotion assignment and may be filled at the GS-08 or GS-09 level (dependent on qualifications). At the expiration of this assignment, or whenever your services are no longer needed, you will be returned to your position and agency of record.
Temporary Promotion may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years without further competition.
May require completion of a one year probationary period.
**Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP):** CTAP provides eligible surplus and displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. The BLM has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
Incumbent must meet specified levels on annual physical fitness tests, and pass periodic medical exams for wildland fire personnel, commensurate with current incident management qualifications.
Government facilities are required to provide a smoke free environment for their employees. Smoking will be permitted only in designated areas.
Special retirement coverage will not be affected by this detail/temporary promotion. Your position of record determines your retirement coverage.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
